    Pickleball at PCYC

Registration for this event opens on 7 July 2026

    Presenter:  Wendy Taylor

    Note ~ back to Tuesdays

Pickleball is a mix of tennis, table tennis and badminton.  Pickleball is fun, social and friendly.  It is played with a paddle and using a perforated plastic ball over a tennis-type net on a badminton-sized court.

By playing pickleball, seniors can improve their balance and coordination, reducing their risk of falls and injuries.  Pickleball can be mentally stimulating because it requires focus, strategy and quick decision making.

To play pickleball at PCYC, you will need to be a member of the club.  Membership for U3A pickleball players is free.  However, you will be asked to complete a manual membership form available at the front desk of the PCYC (not online) and will then receive a PCYC tag to be used for admission to the club.

Please wear comfortable enclosed shoes and bring a bottle of water. There is a weekly court fee of $10.00 for Term 3.

Please text Wendy on 0408 565 475 to cancel or apologise ~ include your full name.

The books that we read in Mystery Book Club are not mysterious but part of the crime/thriller genre and all it's different categories:  Scandi crime, British crime, Australian crime, American crime, even True crime.

We meet in the pleasant surroundings of Henry's Bistro, at the Wagga RSL Club.  Look for us at one of the long tables close to the middle lift. The idea is that we sit and chat, tell each other about the books we have read and swap those books for others that the members of our group have enjoyed.

Coffee and tea is available (at own cost).

Free registration but a gold coin is required to attend each session.

Did Shakespeare really write those plays?

Registration for this event opens on 27 July 2026

    Presenter: Neryl Quilty

Did William Shakespeare really write those plays or was it someone else? There have been at least 80 other potential writers, (some quite ridiculous), put forward over the years. It has been suggested that William Shakespeare lacked the education and personal background to have been such a successful writer. Where did his ideas come from? What resources did he have access to? Collaboration between writers, including Shakespeare, was not unusual at the time.

Popular plays were often rewritten; old stories used and adapted. This talk will explore some of these ideas.

From Jillaroo to CEO: Lessons from a Life of Unexpected Opportunities.

Registration for this event opens on 3 August 2026

    Presenter: Jill Ludford

What shapes a life? Is it careful planning, hard work, or being willing to say "yes" to opportunities?

Born in Brisbane, Jill Ludford's life journey has taken her from Australia to the USA during the Vietnam War era, through six schools, a teenage jillaroo, nursing and midwifery, raising a family in rural Australia, and ultimately leading one of Australia's largest rural health services.  In this engaging and personal presentation, Jill reflects on the experiences, challenges and opportunities that shaped her life and career.  She shares stories of caring for refugee families, establishing innovative community health programs, building a veterinary practice with her husband, managing hospitals across regional NSW, and serving as CEO of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District until her retirement in 2026.

More than a career story, this is a reflection on resilience, leadership, adaptability and the lessons learned from embracing change, taking opportunities, and remaining curious throughout life.

    Health & Happiness

Registration for this event opens on 10 August 2026

    Presenter: Toni Crimmins

My name is Toni Crimmins and I work from my office in Turvey Park as a Hypnotherapist and Naturopath.

I became a Naturopath after conquering a severe health crisis, being diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 2002. After being given no hope of ever walking again, with the help of my family, we embarked on a series of complimentary treatments which I still practice to this day.  My recovery was considered miraculous and I would love to share simple techniques to improve your health.

Hypnotherapy is a vital tool I studied while caring for my dear old Dad who suffered with dementia.  I used meditative techniques which proved very helpful on his days of heightened confusion.  Hypnotherapy has become a big part of my business, helping people to improve many facets of their life.  Much to share.

    Days for Girls Australia:

How a Volunteer Movement is Changing Lives - One Girl at a Time.

Registration for this event opens on 17 August 2026

    Presenter: Kathy Wallace

What if a simple sewing project could help keep girls in school, improve health, restore dignity, and create opportunities for women around the world?

Join Kathy Wallace, Director of "Days for Girls Australia" and Co-Leader of the Wagga Wagga Team, as she shares the story of an extraordinary organisation that is run entirely by volunteers.  Across Australia, more than 1,600 volunteers in over 80 local teams make reusable menstrual health kits and provide education to women and girls who lack access to menstrual products and information.

Through photographs and personal stories from Australia, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea, Kathy will explain how menstrual health can be a barrier to education, employment and equality, and how Australian volunteers are helping to change that.  Discover how a small team in Wagga Wagga is part of a global movement that is improving lives and breaking down stigma.

Registration is free but a gold coin is required to attend the session.

    Landfill and Recycling Facilities Tour

Registration for this event opens on 31 August 2026

    Presenter: Sam Holt

The tour will begin at the Kurrajong Materials Recovery Facility where we will see how recyclables are separated and processed.  This provides insight into the importance of correct recycling at home and how it directly impacts recovery rates and contamination.

Then on through the transfer station and Community Recycling Centre, learning how to correctly dispose of problem and hazardous waste.  The tour highlights how separating these materials can allow residents to dispose of them safely and for free.

Finally, the tour concludes at the Gregadoo Centre, where we will learn how general waste is managed, compacted and contained, alongside the environmental controls in place.  Together, this tour demonstrates Wagga Council's commitment to resource recovery and the vital role the community play.

Enclosed shoes are essential. A water bottle and snacks are suggested.  All other PPE will be provided.

Park on Chaston Street outside Kurrajong Centre, then meet at the sign in office.  A minibus will return you to your vehicle between 1:00 - 1:30pm after the tours are concluded.

Registration is free but a gold coin is required to attend the session.
